Urkraft – NATURENS SKRIK CD

The Urkraft entity started in Oslo twelve years ago but manifested itself only twice, in 2020 with the eponymous record and three years ago with the second “Lyset Skinner Best I Mørket”. Now it’s time for the most ambitious effort, “Naturens Skrik”.  There is a certain cold, calculated dignity in the way Andreas Wærholm operates. In an era where many artists feel the need to remain “constantly online” to stay relevant, the architect of Urkraft understands that true atmosphere requires a bit of shadows and silence. By retreating into the underground, Wærholm ensures that when Urkraft does resurface, it isn’t just “another release” — it’s a concentrated burst of creative intent. “Nature Skrik” is progressive black metal, combining elements of old and new, with influences from old Arcturus and Ulver, as well as newer DHG and Oranssi Pazuzu. Moving beyond standard tremolo picking, the newer material emphasizes “cultish” chanting and ritualistic acoustic bridges, merging together in a chasm of sound, from the deep abysses, to the highest peaks. It is the sound of «nature’s scream», which also is the title of the album in Norwegian.
