By 2009, Oasis were one of the last true arena-filling rock bands standing, still commanding huge audiences worldwide. With nearly two decades of hits behind them, the Gallagher brothers and their bandmates had evolved into a leaner outfit, bringing their trademark swagger and sing-along anthems to a new generation of fans.Their seventh studio album, Dig Out Your Soul (2008), pushed the band into a more psychedelic groove, to critical and commercial acclaim. Its release was followed by an ambitious, globe-spanning tour that took in North America, Europe, Asia and South America, playing to sold-out arenas and festival crowds of tens of thousands. The shows were praised for revitalised setlists blending new material with classics, and an onstage energy many critics felt was their strongest in years. For fans, it felt like a triumphant victory lap – yet, in hindsight, it would prove to be their swan song and the last time Oasis would perform together before their eventual reunion in 2024.
