Advancing on from 2020’s stunning “Phantasmagorical Personification of the Death Temple”, the second DMP album from São Paulo’s ANARKHON raises the stakes in the realm of arcane rotting Death Metal: 23 years into their career and this band just gets darker and more devastating with every turn. Although permeated with decay, this is not purely old school Death Metal. There is a forward-thinking bent to the sublimated, twisted melodies which often contain echoes of angular contemporary Black Metal, a psychopathic precision in the brutal jackhammer rhythms and horrific haunted vocalisations, with the whole bolstered by organic production preserving the putrefied atmosphere while maintaining instrumental clarity.
