The Police’s debut album Outlandos d’Amour (1978) marked the band’s arrival as a major new force. Driven by singles such as ‘Roxanne’ and ‘Can’t Stand Losing You’, it proved both a commercial breakthrough and a critical success. The following year saw the release of Reggatta de Blanc (1979), the album that truly established The Police at the height of their early powers. Broadening their musical palette while refining their songwriting, it topped the UK charts and achieved major international success. The success of Reggatta de Blanc took The Police on an extensive world tour throughout 1979 and 1980, capturing them at a moment of explosive growth and intensity. For the first time, the band performed beyond Europe and North America, playing to audiences across New Zealand, India, Egypt and Australia in what became a truly global itinerary. Among the most eagerly anticipated dates were their debut shows in Japan, where a rapidly growing and dedicated fan base had been eagerly waiting to see the band perform live.
