Following the release of Fleetwood Mac’s final album Say You Will in 2003, Stevie Nicks embarked on a world tour with the band that lasted until September 2004. Nicks had publicly announced her dissatisfaction with the album and subsequent tour and in particular vocalised her animosity towards once-boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham. Seeking respite from the turbulent Say You Will tour, Stevie Nicks undertook a four-night residency at Caesars Palace in Vegas in May 2005. She followed these four shows with a 10 show run with Don Henley, dubbed The Two Voices Tour. Fresh off the success of these two stints, Stevie Nicks embarked on a solo tour of North America known as the Gold Dust tour that continued late into 2005.Stevie Nicks decided to take the Gold Dust tour down under in 2006 with a short run of 10 shows that spanned Australia and New Zealand. The first of these shows was a particularly special occasion: a one-off performance alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra on the 18th of February at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. Conducted by Scott Smalley and under the musical direction of Waddy Wachtel, Rehearsals for the show had taken the entirety of the preceding month as the orchestra fleshed out arrangements to accompany Stevie Nicks. Speaking on the particular specificities of the string arrangements for the show, Nicks said: ‘When you put an orchestra with a rock ‘n’ roll band you don’t want The Sound of Music. You want Kashmir, you want Led Zeppelin.’
