Formed in Los Angeles in 1990, Tool quickly established themselves as one of the most original and uncompromising bands in modern rock. Featuring vocalist Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey and bassist Paul D’Amour (who was soon replaced by Justin Chancellor), the group fused progressive rock, heavy metal and art rock into a distinctive sound unlike that of any of their contemporaries. Acclaimed for their intricate compositions, thought-provoking lyrics and visually ambitious live performances, Tool have earned multiple Grammy Awards and widespread critical acclaim while exerting a profound influence on generations of progressive and alternative metal artists.Across landmark albums including Undertow (1993), Ænima (1996), Lateralus (2001) and 10,000 Days (2006), Tool continually expanded the boundaries of heavy music, combining complex time signatures, hypnotic rhythms and philosophical themes with uncompromising musicianship.
