This System Kills – This System Kills White Vinyl EP Review

Monday, December 22, 2014 - PUNX.UK

Now I like a good moan, I freely admit it and I’ve been moaning about the state of the scene for a while now (you may of noticed?) I hate the lack of anger, the lack of protest, the lack of meaningful lyrics and the lack of abrasive riffs. So it was like a breath of punk air when I got to listen to This System Kills’ latest EP.

For those of you that don’t know it, This System Kills are from South Wales and have been making their ‘orrible racket for over a decade now.

The EP which follows on from their 2010 debut album ‘Free Speech’ and it starts us off with ‘Daily Dose of Hype. The track grabs you round the jugular like a salivating pitbull, This System Kills are no pop punk band and thank fuck for that! It’s so nice to hear pure disgust and any song about taking the movement back to the underground where it belongs gets my vote.

There’s nothing like a punk band with something to say and This System Kills definitely has plenty of that! From taking our scene back from corporate money grabbing wankers to the fast (junk) food industry and the state of our food today. Punk addressing current issues will always strike a chord with me.

The overall sound of the band have taken a step forward since Free Speech, the band’s resonance with even more determination and a crushing power. Pig’s vocals sound especially resentful and having more clout than ever before. This is a confident step forward for the band and shows real progress.

I’ve listened to the EP numerous times now and I am still finding enjoyment in it, which shows it is a quality offering to the worldwide punk masses.

Everyone knows Wales has a fine punk legacy, from Icons of Filth to The Partisans and This System Kills can be counted on to carry that battle flag forward into the future.
